Monitoring Food Forests

A food forest mimics a forest but is planted with edible plants. For the 'Green Deal Food Forests' we are developing an innovative smart- phone based monitoring platform to be able to monitor 18 food forests in a standardised way, that have been planted across the Netherlands. We will track soil, social and economic indicators, explore the viability of business models, and share insights and lessons learned amongst the initiatives.

Species Rich Forest

On the outer edge of nature reserve the Hoge Veluwe we are restoring a small, poorly maintained production forest plot. We have removed invasive trees and used them to create bird shelter. We are now reintroducing native tree species that fix nitrogen, increase soil quality and help to support biodiversity and productivity over time. We aim to revive the plot to support local wildlife and set an inspirational example that can be replicated at scale.
